Totolight – Making Of
Here comes Totolight, a cute bedside lamp.
It was first modeled in 3D in different parts: Base (2 parts), body, umbrella (2 parts).
Bienvenue à Totolight, une lampe de chevet top Kawaii.
Il a d’abord été modélisé en plusieurs parties: Socle (2 parties), corps, parapluie (2 parties).

The body print took around 36 hours on a CR-10S pro from Ceality with white PLA filament in vase mode, avoiding support to be able to use the character belly as light propagator. So thin and light, it worked! No printing issue. However I still managed to print a smaller prototype version in gray PLA.
Le corps s’est imprimé en à peu près 36h sur une CR-10S pro de chez Creality avec du filament PLA blanc de chez Arianne plast en mode vase afin d’éviter les supports dans le corps, en effet le ventre du personnage étant là pour propager la lumière. Résultat fin et léger! aucune soucis d’impression, cependant un prototype de petite taille a quand même était imprimé en PLA gris.

With all the parts printed came the long process of sanding, painting, sanding, putty filling holes, sanding and even more sanding until a descent quality.
Une fois toutes les parties imprimées, vint le temps du ponçage, peinture, ponçage, mastic, ponçage jusqu’à obtenir une qualité acceptable des surfaces.
At this particular moment of the project I decided to keep the black & white look because it looked awesome.
A ce moment très précis du projet j’ai décidé de gardé le look noir & blanc car le rendu était magnifique.

Reaching the end of the project I totally missed the idea of “removing the Totoro to be able to change the light bulb”.
Therefore, based on the character first layers, I quickly modelled a tiny base with holes to put magnets inside, as the Totoro base was to thin to easily stuck nw material inside.
Arrivant à la fin du projet j’avais complètement omis les œufs de caille l’idée de pouvoir décrocher le Totoro afin de pouvoir changer l’ampoule. En me basant sur le bas du corps du personnage, j’ai vite modélisé une fine plateforme pour accueillir des aimants et ainsi obtenir un abat jour amovible.
